Tall Haus at Rocky Top Farms (dog friendly)
All about RockyTop’s place
Up north at its best! The Tall Haus sits on a pond among the birch and pines in a working cherry orchard. Built by my husband and me, with a whole lot of help from many friends, it clearly has love in the details. Large windows bring the daylight in and allow for dreamy star- gazing – maybe even the northern lights!
Six person outdoor hot tub is shared with the cabin also on property.
Locally made art. Access to trails for hiking, mountain biking, xc ski and snowshoe all around the orchard and ponds. Minutes to Lake Michigan and Torch Lake beaches. The cabin makes a great getaway for couples and families. There is a sleeping loft which can 2 and a private bedroom which sleeps two. It’s not a big place, so don’t expect tons of room to roam inside.
Limited kitchen has a smart oven, countertop two burner range, microwave, sink, coffee maker, electric frying pan and refrigerator. We provide pots and pans, knives, and table settings.
The Tall Haus can be rented in conjunction with The little cabin at Rocky Top Farms. Towels and linens are provided.
You must have four- wheel drive to access the Treehouse in the winter, or plan to hike the 1/4 mile from the barn. If you have to be towed out, the cost is between $50- $100.
This cabin isn’t a hotel. It’s got heritage, patina and whimsy. It doesn’t have brand-new anything. (The kitchen table is almost 75 years old, and was in my Grandmother’s cottage.) It’s a creative and fun place, that is an eclectic mix of character and style. We love it, and we hope you do too.
`Guests have access to the hiking and biking trails around the orchard and woods around our large property. We do not allow motorized vehicles on the farm due to liability. Do not drive around the orchard. No shooting.
You may fish in the pond. You may use the canoe.
There is also a disc golf course on the west side of the property.
The hot tub is shared with the little cabin, but isn’t too busy.
Dogs are allowed- we ask for a $30 dog fee to be left in the Tall Haus at the time of departure.
Other things to note
It is required that guests have a four wheel drive vehicle in the winter and early spring! Our driveway is no joke!
Guests must be able to climb steps to enjoy this space. We do welcome small children, but parents, please be aware- there are two sets of steps and a concrete floor in the Tall Haus. If you have a toddler, it may not be the safest house for them.
The water here is well- water. It is dually filtered, but it still has a yellowish cast due to tannins in the water. It has been recently tested, and is good to drink. Those used to heavily chlorinated city water may choose to bring their own drinking water.
Please also note- there is no wi-fi or internet here. Cell phones generally get good reception.
